My first attempt at Haiku/Haibun

My office faces the desert so there isn’t much to see, other than endless sand dunes and a few shrubs that grow against all odds. Everyday, I take a cab to the office. I get off at the bus-stand across the road and  then cross over, over a patch of grass. As someone who is totally in love with the green, stepping over this  patch works in magical ways more than one but I invariably have to rush to avoid getting late to work.

          Wish I could linger,

          Just a little while longer…

         On this patch of grass.

P.S. With this I tried my hand at writing poetry in a new form –

          A Haiku or a Haibun … 

         I am not sure which one,

        Or maybe it’s simply none,

        Pray, tell me, if it’s right or wrong,

        I just knew it mustn’t be long…

       I knew it had to do with evoking the senses,

      Or awaken feelings that lie in one’s deepest recesses…

Note: A Haiku is a Japanese poem of 3 lines to do with nature and following the pattern 5-7-5  while a Haibun is a prose poem with a Haiku.
