Today’s challenge was to write an Elegy. I have written this in honor of a friend who passed away last August. A GIRL I KNEW… was a post I wrote when I got to know of the loss. The below I write based on our last meeting. Her death answered a number of questions that I had been carrying in my heart since I lost my mother ten years ago which coincidentally was also around the time I met her.
“I will always keep in touch with you too”,
“I promise, once I am back, I will meet you”,
“I’ll never misunderstand you, goodbye” is what you said,
“Me too”, was what I said.
Someone who knew it all, smiled wryly from above,
On it’s way down He had sent his white dove…
You wished me well,
As we bid each other farewell,
Your words and your eyes kind,
Your smile etched in my mind.
“I was scared of taking a vaccination”, you smiled and said,
“Love of family gives you strength”, you explained, no sign of dread,
In death you taught me more than you will ever know,
Answering questions o’er the years that my heart did sow,
May you rest in peace, wherever you are,
For peace is what I got from you, my beautiful friend afar…
“No doctor, no family, no bond can hold you back,
When the end is near and He wants you back”.
I keep my promise and meet you often,
Thinking of you, my heart does soften,
Tender, fun and full of life,
A beautiful soul you were, in a world full of strife.
