NaPoWriMo, Day 7 : Serendipity

Today’s challenge was to write a poem on luck and fortuitousness. For this we had to make lists on things lost, things found and choose one out of those and write a poem connecting it.

Writing this poem brought back some beautiful memories of days bygone, of childhood and mom’s daily letters to me when I was away at boarding school.

I truly enjoyed writing this poem. Hope you enjoy reading it as much.

Last summer,

I lost a diary

In golden letters –

On it’s black cover,

was engraved “1999′.

It had a few laughs,

A few forgotten tears,

Some celebrations,

And my biggest fears,

It had mom’s recipes,

And some of grandmother’s too,

Mom’s advice on life,

And how I felt on becoming a wife!

I searched all over,

Under the beds and in the drawers,

Rummaged through the cupboards,

And the cardboard boxes in the store.

But nowhere did I find it!

Tucked away in the far corner,

A dusty, old, briefcase lay,

Long unopened, slightly broken,

Filled with my little sister’s treasures-

A rusted silver medal,

A collection of erasers,

And…

A long, handwritten, letter

Never posted,

Neatly folded,

Signed off ,

“Love you always”

“Mom”.
