NaPoWriMo: Day 10 – A Woman I Loved

Day 10 of NaPoWriMo Challenge was to write a Portrait Poem. Fortunately this came easier than day 9. No confusion. Clarity abound.

Just 1 person, whose portrait I could draw with my eyes closed, whose presence I feel even when she’s not around, who visits me in my dreams and helps me cross every stream… the Only Woman I Loved with all my heart- My Mom.

Fair is thy visage, ebony black thy eyes,

Sweetness thy nameth, charming thy guise,

Oh thee hath left me high-lone, mine own soft , tend’r heart,

Bleeding gouts of r’d , at which hour thee didst depart.

When she smiled, her eyes did twinkle,

When she laughed,  a mellow ripple,

Her hair a dark amber, a rebel curl caressed her cheek,

Wisdom she spread when she parted her lips to speak.

She moved with a flourish,  the rustling sound of silk,

Pearl tops donned her ears, she was the gem of her ilk,

Her skin as smooth as marble, her arm my head-rest,

A lioness brave, zealously she guarded her nest,

Many a young mind did she teach, hers and another’s,

Many a lives did she reach, mine and others’,

Magic in her hands, she conjured up a feast,

An enchanting fairy she was, to say last but not the least.

Patience thy virtue, in abundance possess’d,

Kindness thy nameth, showerth the bless’d,

Many a peoples’ woes, in thy bosom, thou b’re,

Spreading happiness from thy secret st’re.

A beautiful, loving and tender dedication, I like that the rhyme is not burdening but still creates a very pleasing, loving picture.
