National Poetry Writing Challenge Day 27 is to write a poem that explores the sense of taste. This could be a poem on food, wine or even the oddly metallic sensation of snowflake on your tongue.
Being a total foodie, this topic shouldn’t be difficult but it is. Well, I’m finding it difficult to choose. From a long list of foods, there were finally two on the top slot- chocolate and grandma’s food. While there’s absolutely nothing to beat grandma’s cooking, not writing about chocolate seems like betrayal to the one thing in my life that’s been a part of every laughter and every tear.
So here’s to chocolate and all chocolate lovers!
When I am happy,
When I am sad,
When I am hungry,
Or just want something bad,
A bar of chocolate is just what I need.
Just some silence and me on my own,
A bar of chocolate, much better than wine,
Makes me happier for reasons unknown,
Loved and cared for , leaves me feeling fine.
Life’s simple pleasure, only one who loves, it’s worth, he knows.
Out comes the wrapper and I take my first bite,
A world, dewy and mushy, I am transported,
As in my mouth it melts, my mind is dreamy, my heart is light,
I close my eyes, let the magic work, so true, that, what’s purported,
Every bite I take, it says to me, ” Savor the moment, this moment yours”.
Now, some more of this heavenly creation,
Not too sweet, not too milky, not too nutty,
My spirits rejoice, a sense of elation,
Perfect in every way, soft, chocolatey and a wee bit crunchy,
Now it’s done and it’s worked it’s wonder yet again.
