National Poetry Writing Challenge Day 29 to take one of your favorite poems and find a very specific, concrete noun in it. Then take the chosen word and spend five minutes free-writing associations- other nouns, adjectives. Then use your original word and results of your free-writing as building blocks for a new poem.
Here’s mine for today:
When…
When love not professed by a fleeting glance,
But stands the trials of failure and the test of time,
When tender, sweet lies not the foundation,
But hard truths dealt with, before the vow,
When no masquerade awaited to be unearthed,
But in all honesty, a promise made for life, to keep,
When life a challenge, yet it’s mystery undaunting,
And living easier, no stifling pressure built,
When bends many, yet the journey beautiful, ,
And travelling, simpler, no fear of the unknown,
When falls there may be, yet together you rise.
And the feeling of love, stronger and wiser…
When you are loved for who you are,
And are not expected to change;
When you can speak and your opinions heard,
And are not expected to conform,
When you can fly and follow your dreams,
And are not expected to refrain,
When no words are said,
And yet no action misconstrued,
When no explanation given,
And yet all understood,
Then, You, my son , are a fortunate man!
And your life blessed, for true love you found!
