NaPoWriMo : Day 30: A Mother’s Song

National Poetry Writing Challenge Day 30 (last day of the challenge) is to write a poem about something that happens again and again (kind of like NaPoWriMo). It could be the setting of the sun, or your aunt Georgia telling you the same story every year on Thanksgiving Day or the birds returning without fail or that you lock your keys in the car whenever you go to the beach.

Mine for today: Don’t know when I  began singing the same song my mother sang, day after day.

Did you brush your teeth?
Did you wash your feet?

Did you take a shower?
Did you say your prayer?

Did you have your meal?
Did you bin the peel?

Did you do your studies?
Did you go with your buddies?

Did you make the bed?
Did you listen to what I said?

"I did!", "I did!", "I did!",

Must I correct,
You must respect,

Must I remind,
You must be kind,

Must I reprimand,
You must understand,

You must!, You must!, You must!,

Don't roll your eyes,
Don't raise your voice,

Don't waste your food,
Don't walk away,

Don't do this ; Don't do that,
Thank God it's night, I'll rest my head,

"Back Off", "Back Off", a little voice says,

I hear it now,
I know it's true,

Then comes the morn,
And there I go again, on and on.

🙂 It’s the one thing that makes moms, moms. It’s good to know, no matter where we come from, we sing the same song
