Dream dictionaries have been around as long as people have had dreams. Interestingly, if you consult a few of them, they nearly always tend to have totally different things to say about specific objects or symbols. Dreams, unlike words themselves, don’t seem to be nicely definable! At any rate, today’s prompt is to write entries for an imaginary dream dictionary. Pick one (or more) of the following words, and write about what it means to dream of these things:
Teacup Hammer Seagull Ballet slipper Shark Wobbly table Dentist Rowboat
I chose the word “Dentist” for this challenge. Because that’s whom I’ve been thinking of since last fortnight, day and night. Why? You’ll know. At the end of the poem:)
Did you say you dreamed of a Dentist?
Well, let’s see now,
What do we have here….
Ok… here it is… the connotation
The teeth, a sign of your reputation
And the doctor, your aspiration
Or it could also mean,the public perception
The meaning based on a permutation,
a combination
Of…
the state of your pearlies and…
the expression on his face and what he holds in his hand.
Did he carry a scalpel? Did he come across as surly?
These are the options, nothing to worry
Good Teeth, Bad Doc
Run out, don’t walk
Reputation’s at stake
Beware of a snake
Bad teeth, Bad Doc
Run out, don’t walk
No more talk
Of those pearlies, take stock.
Did he have a mirror? Did he appear to smile?
That’s a great sign. I’ll tell you in a while
Bad Teeth, Good Doc
Open your mouth. Knock, Knock
Baby, time’s up
You gotta have a clean-up!
Good Teeth, Good Doc
Run, Don’t walk
Make the dream, real
The dentist’s a steal!
That’s the gist
of the dream of a dentist.
