NaPoWriMo 2018: Day 15- To Err Is Human

Today’s prompt is to see the other side of an evil person. In her interview, Blake suggests writing a poem in which a villain faces an unfortunate situation, and is revealed to be human (but still evil). Perhaps this could mean the witch from Hansel & Gretel has lost her beloved cat, and is going about the neighborhood sticking up heart-wrenching “Lost Cat” signs, but still finds human children delicious. Maybe Blackbeard the Pirate is lost at sea in an open boat, remembering how much he loved his grandmother (although he will still kill the first person dumb enough to scoop him from the waves).

My take on the prompt for today

Snow-white

Snow-White’s step-mother

Of her step-daughter, did not bother

until that “holier than thou” mirror- on the wall

said Snow-white was prettier, than them all

It came as a bummer

this shocking revelation, that Snow-white’s a stunner

What could she do, she was the Queen

And the prettiest in the world, until now, she had been

Jealousy got the better of her,

and love, if it existed, became a blur…

The Queen ordered the huntsman to kill-

And she thought he did. Until

That blessed mirror on the wall,

decided to blow the cover and tell it all

“Snow-White’s the prettiest. With seven dwarfs she-

lives in the jungle. ” Writhing with anger, the Queen went off to see

the Princess, her daughter,

And kill her. To put an end to this cumbersome matter.

Dressed in an old woman’s guise,

She gave the Princess a poisoned red apple, telling her sweet lies

Oh! poor, dear Snow-White

fell to the ground. She would have died with that bite

If not for the good Prince-

who found her in a coffin and kissed her lips. They lived happily ever since.

Now, was the Queen wrong? I wonder…

A sin she did commit. ‘Twas an unforgivable blunder

But all her life she had been told…

“Beauty far more important than being kind and bold”

So, you see, we must forgive the foolish Woman

The Queen she was but she’s only human!

An old story with a new moral.
We have, unfortunately, been always in one manner or the other been made to appreciate outer beauty. It seldom & often late that we realise that its the balance between both inner and outer that matters.
    Lovely poem.

True Sanjana. You are as your blog name states “the thinker.” 🙂 As much as we get bowled over by outer beauty, its the inner beauty in a person that actually helps you hold on to a person. Thanks for checking it out and your lovely comment.
