The below poem won the third prize in the World Peace and Harmony Association
Rules: 12 to 16 lines
I ponder wistfully with a sigh,
What went wrong, where and why?
A world of learned men fight eye for eye…
In the name of religion, many a rift,
From tolerance effortlessly we made the shift,
From humanity, we steadily set adrift.
Precious freedom misused- of the founding fathers, a priceless gift…
Let’s make a pledge, now and here,
To end the carnage, and to wipe every tear
To nourish courage, and end the fear.
May every man to live with dignity, have the right,
Of the distressed and downtrodden, may we not lose sight,
May no man go hungry into the silent night…
Against injustice, may we not perish without a fight.
A hope I treasure; peace will conquer and evil shall wither,
A new dawn we shall see, when Man his words and actions does tether
