Lying on the bed this morning,
I saw the cerulean grey sky : a checkered pattern of clouds, streaks and waves
I saw the blue dome of the building across: a silhouette on that washed canvas
I saw the birds: free, their wings spread, gliding on the vast dance floor
And I told myself –
Today, focus on the good
But the monkey in my brain preferred so much the bad
And I told myself
Today, you have a million reasons to smile
But the one reason that weighed me down cast a shadow over the rest
And I told myself
Today, celebrate friendship and love
But my incalcitrant heart preferred to mourn betrayal and manipulation
As I lay and continued to look,
I saw the sun – light up the dance floor and color the canvas a hint of orange-red
I saw a halo of clouds around the dome and tiles illuminated by the rays
I saw the rays sneak in through the window and kiss my eyelids
They told me, ‘Rise’
And so I rose-
My heart, my brain and I
Like the Sun
