Have you ever seen a dream that felt so real, that when you woke up, you could still see it and remember each bit?
I had the strangest dream last night and the words wrote themselves out in my dream. All I had to do was wake up and type them down before they slipped out of my fingers like grains of sand…
I dreamed last night
Of crystal, green waters
I saw the white sands beneath
An outline of the mountains, beyond-
A haze, brown- grey
I saw fishermen
Not one, but few
standing in a line-
Their sun-burnt bodies, burnished
glint in the sun
I saw the sinews on their arms
each rise, each fall
as they hauled a mammoth rope
their calloused feet firm, in the dew-wet sands
I saw no boats
neither at shore nor at sea
I felt my feet rise
Above the ground
In my hand, I had a pillow
Soft, filled with downy feather
It helped me steer
I saw me flying
with the sea-gulls
the green waters beneath
the sands and the mountains
I felt light
at ease
happy
And then I descended
I was on the beach
A few steps away from where I had started
I trudged through the sand
the pillow in my hand
There were no fishermen
I passed by a couple
They looked at me , a strange look
I felt their eyes
I saw a home
The women asked me where I’d been
I couldn’t tell
For they’d ne’er believe
I entered
There was an old man- the patriarch
He sat on a chair
dressed in white
He smiled at me
kindly
His eyes said, ‘I know where you’ve been’
He said, ‘Food is on the table
We’ve been waiting for you’
I woke up, it was dark
I was on my bed
I closed my eyes
I remembered
The smell of the sea
The feel of the sand beneath my feet
The warm, salt air tingling my blood
The lightness
The breeze
