The teaching of the skies

nature2

I reworked on a poem that I had written a few years’ ago – 27/12/2016 to be precise. I was on a holiday in Vietnam. Hubby and me woke up in the morning while the rest slept in  and we walked up to the beach, which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel in which we and our friends were staying. There was a slight drizzle and barely anybody was in sight. So it was just us, the open sea, the skies and the hills. A blurry statue of Buddha could be seen on a hill-top in the distance.

Here is the revised version of the poem

The teaching of the skies

My mind’s a blank slate

My heart’s a placid state

I wake up, at the break of dawn

The pillows damp; I

Gently tip-toe.

The sound of the ocean beckons,

My drowsy eye awakens,

I walk towards the waves

They rise and fall; and rise again, I

watch them; still.

The sky, the sea, the hills: a hundred shades of grey,

“A thousand hues more- when you are ready,” they say

I feel the spray on my face

The taste of salt on my lips; I

breathe the petrichor.

A mellow, distant glow makes its way

A dog saunters, a bird soars; following the first ray,

High, high, high it goes

And takes with it my spirits low; I

gaze roused; enlivened

I’ll fall again; I am aware

As the waning moon, to rise, I dare,

There will be cheers; there will be tears

To thee I promise, to fight my deepest fears. I

too shall soar.

There is a lovely tranquility about being up early when not many people are about, it’s like another peaceful world, which you’ve captured beautifully here.

Absolutely Andrea. ‘Tranquility’ is the word. Thank you for your comment. Makes me believe I got it right.
