This is the third poem in the series on mental awareness. To read the previous 2, please click on the links below this poem. While its’ not easy being around someone going through depression, walking away may not be an solution. What seems like whining or cribbing may actually be something much more. So, if you’re not in a position to help, get someone else to help the person.
Being around someone going through depression, can be extremely depressing. And its’ easy to get frustrated when you’re not trained to provide support.
While it is true that you must surround yourself with positive people to be positive, what if somebody you know or love is going through depression? You can’t drive them away or leave them drowning. Help them accept that there’s something wrong and it’s like any other ailment that affects the body and it needs treatment. Because mental health is an illness and its’ not a choice.
Tell them, Show them
Tell them there’s no magic wand
Tell them how special your bond
Tell them you believe
Tell them their smile you’ll help retrieve
Give them your ears
Give them your hand to wipe away their tears
Give them a shoulder to lean on
Give them a reason to go on
Show them you care
Show them you’ll be there
Show them life’s a circus
Show them their purpose
Tell them it ‘aint easy
Tell them it was never meant to be
Tell them it’s not just them, or you or me
Tell them they’ll see
It’ll all be worth it, in the end
