A huge thanks to Robbie Cheadle for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. It’s a wonderful feeling to receive an award at the beginning of the year, when one is actually feeling very guilty about not being able to blog as religiously as one wants. Robbie, is the author of several books on poetry and prose. She is also a fabulous baker among other things and shares her writing and recipes on her blog Robbie’s Inspiration

Below are the questions that Robbie’s asked me to answer. I’ll try to answer as best I can.
1. What is the most extreme “sport” you’ve done (if any)?
I have done sports but nothing extreme. The only ‘extreme,’ I’ve done is taking a class in boxing at the gym. It was my first class. But the trainer was a little too inspiring for the first class. Or maybe it was heroic me. I believed I was the next ‘Muhammad Ali,’ or ‘Mary Kom,’ in the making. I didn’t let age, or experience stop me from delivering the punches. Only I hadn’t worn the punching glove as yet. So at the end of the class, I came back with a hand that was swollen and black and blue from punching. That was my first and last ‘extreme,’ sport. And this incident is as fresh as it can get – just 2 weeks old!
2. Do you have a favorite travel destination? If so, where?
I love travelling. Since I want to travel around the globe, I’ve never really visited a foreign destination more than once. However, if I had to go again, I’d love to travel to Italy once more. We’ve been to Venice, Florence, Sienna, Sorento, Cinque Terra and Vatican last time and we just about touched Rome. When we were there, I threw a coin into the Trevis Fountain (though it was undergoing reconstruction and my coin hit the floor with a clang) because as per popular belief, if you throw a coin into the fountain you will go back to Rome. I’m waiting for that to happen 🙂
3. What is your favorite blog topic?
I don’t stick to a particular genre. I write what I feel. I know its not the right thing to do especially if one want to get loads of followers. And who doesn’t want followers? However, writing for me, has always been about me, as selfish as it may sound. And so I amble along, following the whims of my heart. I write poems, travelogues, experiences and at times dabble with short stories (that’s something I need to work more on though). I have also started doing book reviews. My first one being in December 2019 on Robbie’s book – While the Bombs Fell
- Do you have a preferred time of day to blog? When?
I like writing at night. In the silence of the night when the rest of the house is asleep, that’s when the words come. Sometimes, when the time permits, I blog in the middle of the day too.
5. Do you drink coffee while you blog?
No, i don’t. I just have water and munch on peanuts. Chewing on them keeps my mouth and mind active.
6. Do you have pets?
I don’t. I like the thought of having a dog but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to manage it. There are just so many other things that I want to do that I don’t think I’ll be able to give it the attention it requires. So, for now, the idea of having a dog is shelved until some time later in life.
7. If you were trying to fix a broken shovel handle and a 500 pound gorilla came up to you with a roll of tape, what would you do?
I’d take the tape if the gorilla seemed friendly. If it didn’t, I’d just run, leaving the shovel and all. Or maybe I’d freeze, dropping the shovel.
8. Do you prefer to swim in a pool or a natural body of water?
I’m not great at swimming. So, I just stick to the shallow end of the pool. A natural body of water is nice to look at. But not for swimming, not for me.
9. It’s Thanksgiving- turkey, some other type of meat, or no meat?
As Hindus, we do not have a Thanksgiving dinner. I love the thought behind a Thanksgiving dinner – all the family coming together and sharing a meal. If we were to ever have one, then I’d go with turkey, in line with the tradition. No point in not keeping with the tradition right, if we were celebrating?
10. Given the choice, would you prefer a spider or a snake in your home?
I’d prefer a spider to a snake. No second thoughts on that. We have spiders in our home here – the dainty ones- those that are barely visible – the ones that stay up on the ceilings and don’t bother coming down. Back in the countryside in my grandmother’s house, the spiders are big – thick black legs and bodies. I can’t stand them but I’m sure I prefer them to snakes.
