I await the rain – Delhi burning 2

reality1

I saw a palace

White marble walls

Bedecked with jewels

Brilliantly dazzling

Golden yellow Amaltas * line the drive

Red Palash** flowers

on the pavement-pretty

Each step I took

More beautiful it grew

It’s teak wood door

Ornately carved

Pearl drop chandeliers

Crystals sparkled

Magnificent

It lures me in

I go closer

And closer

That white wall a shroud -it wails

Jewels stare

Chandeliers weep

Crystallized tear  drops

And that door, so sturdy

Freedom denies

Holds captive

The Amaltas rustle, restless

And the fiery Palash– bleeds

I hurry

I step out in the open

Evening rays

Cast shadows

Orange-red

A fire rages, consumes

I walk away Farther

And farther

Until I can hear no more

The cries

And the agonizing sighs

Until I can see no more

The crumbling of authority

and the bitter reality

Far from the pain

I await the rain***

Tell me its not in vain

That I await the rain

Tell me its not in vain

*Amaltas is a tree with yellow flowers, native to Delhi

**Palash are red flowers that line the streets of Delhi in spring

***Australian bush fires were doused by the rains. I hope and pray the man-made fires in Delhi will be doused.

Thank you so much Robbie. The situation in Delhi is so shocking. Its difficult not to be affected by it.

A breathtaking and heartfelt poetry, Smitha and as binny has said, I too don’t know where our country is going with these idiotic political heads sitting and talking on again separating Hindus and Muslims and then we say we are a democratic country. Our people of one nation are burning and it is so sad. Yes Australian fires could be doused but human fires can take ages.

Thank you so much Kamal. Its really sad. We are such an educated, thinking lot and yet are totally unable to stop this barbarianism. I can’t imagine how nobody is able to stop this madness. So many innocent lives have been lost unnecessarily.
