Tomorrow marks the beginning of NaPoWriMo 2020. I am participating in it which means I’ll be writing 30 poems in 30 days. The poems will be based on the prompts provided on NaPoWriMo site. I hope you stick around to read my poems. Your comments will provide the encouragement needed to get through the next 30 days.
In case you’re wondering what I’ve been up to over the last two days – well I did a painting based on Claude Monet’s sunflowers. Since I did not have oil paints, I used Acrylics and as I did not have a canvas, I used water-color paper. Also, as I did not have the colors he used, I changed the colors.
How and why I decided to do this painting is a long story. As we’re stuck inside the house, thanks to the lock-down, I thought I could use the time to write about the places that I had traveled to, but had not written a post on (because it was before I started blogging in 2016).
In order to do this, I pulled out my old diaries and other paraphernalia – a bag full of knick-knacks that I had collected during our travel – tickets, maps postcards among other things. In this precious treasure I found a postcard with a painting of Claude Monet’s sunflowers – hence the painting.
Today marks the 8th day of the lock-down. It’s been just a week and while I have been keeping myself occupied with trying to paint and write and read among the drudgery of household tasks (I’m exaggerating. It’s not that bad), I woke up this morning thinking, ‘Oh Lord! We have another two weeks to go.” Well, it isn’t easy being stuck indoors. I’m sure you’re feeling it too. While I do feel a sense of pride that I haven’t buckled under the pressure of managing the chores and am not dependent on the house-help, it’s depressing to think that even after the lock-down, we might not be able to travel and move around like we used to -not for sometime at-least. Things will take more than 21 days to get back to normal. It may take months. And maybe this is just the tip of the iceberg. The lock-down will have a domino effect on the economy. It could lead to pay-cuts or even job-cuts. I’m not saying it will happen. But if it does, we need to be ready. So, over the 21 days, it’s only right to make a contingency plan, so if things don’t go as expected, you don’t break. We made ours yesterday. Like they say, ‘Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.‘ Remember ‘Health is Wealth,’ and ‘Knowledge is power.’ May God bless us all with both.
Take care and stay safe.
