Lockdown diaries – Watercolors

This was my first watercolor after a really long time. It must be a year since I touched watercolors. After two painting of mine went awry, I decided to give up. Its not a principle I follow in life generally but a messy painting meant time and paint wasted. I know you’re supposed to see it as learning but I just saw it as a sign to move on to something that worked for me. So, I did acrylics. They were far more forgiving. The art teacher I went to – with whom I did two water-colors had told me, ‘You’ll never learn unless you do it on your own.’ So, one year later, when the pain of two failures lessened, I got back to it.  Below is the painting I did on 11/5 based on a picture I found on Pinterest.

Does the painting remind you of a place? Let me know.

Have a great day! Stay safe.

It’s Venice. I have always felt that water Color is the best medium for achieving transparency in a picture. The more water washes you give the better the painting though there is always the danger of messing up. Your painting has come out really well and now I guess you are really on your way. Well done.

I think this is very well done, Smitha. It reminds me of Venice. I don’t paint and am interested to know that working with acrylic paint is “easier” than with watercolours. I would have guessed the opposite to be true.
