Eúnoia – We have a new name!

For all those who follow this blog, you would have noticed that I’ve changed the name of the blog from ‘Pennings…One Woman’s Journey’ to ‘Eúnoia.’

I felt the need to infuse my blog with new life. The first thing to do was to change the name and then change the look. The former is easier to do. With so many choices available, I had no idea which one to choose but I knew exactly what I wanted the name to convey.

During my search for the apt name, I was drawn to some very beautiful words on Pinterest like ‘Meraki’ (a Greek word which means leaving a piece of yourself into your work) , ‘Peiskos’ (a Swedish word that explains the warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you sit close to a fireplace these words did not completely represent my blog. There are times I write posts and poems that rebel against injustice in this world and I do not shy away from talking about sorrow and death and loss which are as much a part of life as the ‘good’ things.

Among the list of exotic words was ‘Eúnoia.’ It is an ancient Greek word which means ‘well mind, beautiful thinking.’

‘Eúnoia’ as per the Cambridge dictionary means ‘the goodwill the speaker creates with the audience,’ which is what I hope to achieve by sharing my thoughts on issues and lessons I’ve learnt from experiences, with complete honesty here.

‘Eúnoia’ by the way also happens to be the only word in the English dictionary that has all the five vowels – it’s unique just like us is – our feelings and our reactions to situations are. I found that interesting and that is what I hope you feel about the posts here – interesting enough to want to come back to it.

Welcome to ‘Eúnoia.’ Over the next few days of the lockdown, I’m going to be working on spring-cleaning my blog. Your advice is more than welcome.

Have a lovely day. Stay Safe.

Eunoia

Interesting name Madam.. Great to learn something new from you.. 😊😊
Your love for Greece is quite evident and a bit cemented through this post (and a previous post of yours as well containing the spectacular painting of Santorini).. 🇬🇷
Wish you all the very best for your upcoming trip to Santorini.. 😊😊

(PS: I am not that qualified, but still, given the choice of theme you made for your blog, you may consider “Hygge” as one of your options, if you so desire)

What is Hygge? How can you understand it beyond the literal meaning?
I shall reveal it soon (Evil Grin – Have written a highly torturous and painful post as well in the recent past.. 😉 )

I saw Hygge too and Ikigai but there were already too many people out there who’d used it in various forms. Eunoia was less taken and I liked the uniqueness around it. Fortunately its easier changing names here than in ‘real’ life so who knows how I feel a few years from now 🙂

Well, I guess Greece is calling🙂. I hadnt thought of the painting until you painted it out.

Looking forward to reading your post. Thanks Abirbhav for writing back.

Well, Ikigai is an overused (and perhaps abused) Management lingo. But I didn’t know that Hygge was used to that extent. Good to learn from you.. 😊😊

Well, I thank you for generously complimenting the complimenter, but I don’t think I prompted you about Greece. You painted it out yourself without me pointing it out.. 😊😊 And yes, best wishes for your trip to Greece.. 😊😊

Let me invite you to a short conversation on the “Hygge” way of life. I am sure you will be able to explain it in a better way since you know about it.. 😊😊

And now, there is a statutory warning for the following post. It can be torturous and graphic. Reader’s discretion is advised.
