This is a very moving poem, Smitha. Who knew that life would be so full of small choices, decisions and angst.

Thanks so much Robbie. You said it perfectly, ‘who knew.’ Exactly how I’m feeling- cant get over the fact that is really happening to us – an entire year wiped out.
I haven’t met anybody other than the four of us in these last 6 months. Its crazy.

We haven’t met anyone new either, and have not ventured out much at all.

This is a beautiful poem, I was moved greatly by your verse it reminded me of the conversations I had with my father who passed away last year. I often think that in the time of the pandemic it was a blessing that he didn’t have to go through it. The isolation that nursing homes have been in Australia would have been hard for all of us to endure.
    Thank you for sharing. Mim

Thank you so much for sharing how you felt Mim and your experience with your dad. I’m sorry for your loss.
Its true…this pandemic is a true test to one’s sensibilities. Here in Mumbai there aren’t enough hospital beds so am not even thinking of getting dad here. I believe the cases are increasing in Melbourne too. Hope you’re doing fine.

It’s a lovely poem that brought back so many good memories. The years when our parents are fading are so difficult. But they are full of precious gifts if we see them as whole lives, across the span of decades. They are still there, and still giving us so much. There are so many moments from both my parents’ final months that are very precious to me. Moments when I could see that in spite of all that had been taken from them in terms physical and mental abilities, they still loved us and nurtured us. Thank you for saying it so well.

    Congratulations on its publication!
