Years ago one of my clients was a posh hotel resort and I stated there while our project was going on. I used to say good morning to the gardeners who were clearing the grounds of leaves in the morning. They looked shocked which made me think I had breached a protocol. They were used to being looked through or not looked at at all. It made me sad.

Jo, was this in India? If yes, I’m not surprised. Its sad but thats just the way it is. In fact, if you as in a lady smiles and talks they might even get the wrong idea because they are so used to people ignoring them. This again depends on the place. In smaller towns its easier to acknowledge them.

Oh no, it was in Florida. In a rich area where all the houses seem to have gated driveways too.
