PuBLISHED: THE LAST DANCE

My poem, ‘The Last Dance’ has been published by Borderless Journal.

I see it steal the lead

break away

and pirouette-

a dancing ballerina

swirling on the open stage,

a Turkish dervish

whirling to a melody I cannot hear,

I strain my ear

Thanks so much Robbie and thank you for sharing it forward. We had a quiet Diwali with a mix of good and bad. Hopefully the good overpowers the bad in the coming weeks.

We are in the midst of “leaf harvesting” season, where we have abundant tall oak trees dropping dreary tan leaves on our patio, gardens, walkways and driveway. We still rake and bag them ourselves. (It keeps us in shape for snow shovelling season!) As tedious as this work is, I look up and smile at the dance of those leaves as they blow down on us, falling on the cleanly raked areas we have completed. I enjoyed your poem, which was the leaf dance in words. Also that Ghoomar photo was lovely.

I love reading your comments Jo. I learn so much about your life there just by way of your comments. To know that you who loves nature, could relate to the poem is satisfying.

It seems like so much of work in your part of the world but I suppose that keeps you’ll physically active unlike us here, who are spoiled rotten thanks to the availability of domestic help and end up having all kinds of aches and pains. It sounds fun too that every season something new with it. With not too many differences in seasons in Mumbai, there’s not much change here except during the monsoons.

Superb and that is what a dervish is all about. Very beautifully penned, Smitha.
