Art : Autumn Dreams

In my last post, I told you how Benaras kept me busy until January 23rd. Those who noticed probably wondered, ‘What happened after that? It’s February 17th today!’ While I desperately wanted to get back to my favorite medium of art – watercolors, I couldn’t because of a painting that I had started before Benaras came my way. The canvas lay on my easel with the first coat of yellows and browns- my favorite colors (you’ll see a touch of it in all my paintings). Watercolors simply had to wait.

I did the painting on a 24″ by 16″ canvas and boy, was I glad to do something smaller after the previous painting (for which I had to stand all day long to cover the canvas)! The painting is inspired by a painting by Chuck Black. He is an excellent painter who uses acrylic and oil on his paintings. I restricted myself to using acrylic for this painting because I did not have oils and I have not used oil paints in over a decade. I dabbled with them a long time ago when I took my second sabbatical from work. Coming to think of it, art has been the thing I have gone back to now and then when I needed a change in life. But until now my love affair with art has been short-lived for the simple reason that it’s hard work, it’s a solitary journey and there’s a lot of cleaning up to do after it. This time however, I hope it’s here to stay.

Anyways here’s the painting in it’s initial stage-

Unfinished stage

Close to completion but not yet

And the above is the final picture. If you’re wondering what the blue is on the left side of the painting, that’s blue tag. My girls’ put up the painting on the wall using blue tag. I said I would use the best photograph to upload on social media and give them credit for it. The three of them – my husband and the girls eagerly began clicking, none of them noticing the blue tag on the side.

Here is the final painting up on the wall minus the blue tag, waiting to be framed. Let me know what you think of it.

  1. […] size 36″ X 24″. I’m not going to share the stages of the painting like I did for Art : Autumn Dreams but I will tell you this – that it took me twelve days of walking, talking, dreaming horses […]

Thank you so much Jude. Honestly, when it didn’t appear as bright as I wanted it, I did another coat over it and used my only color mixes. If you’re serious about wanting it, I could courier it to you (across the oceans 🙂 ) Let me know. If you’re on fb, send me a message and we can take it from there. Thank you again for your lovely comment. It made me smile.

Such a pleasure. Shipping is not quite in the cards for me right now but in the near future it could be.
