NaPoWriMo Day 17 : The Night of The Super, Blue, Blood Moon… Jan 31st 2018

“And now, our prompt. I’ve seen some fairly funny twitter conversations lately among poets who are coming to terms with the fact that they keep writing poems about the moon. For better or worse, the moon seems to exert a powerful hold on poets, as this large collection of moon-themed poems suggests. Today, I’d like to challenge you to stop fighting the moon. Lean in. Accept the moon. The moon just wants what’s best for you and your poems. So yes – write a poem that is about, or that involves, the moon.”

Am sharing a poem I had written earlier on 2/2/2018 for the prompt. It was when the world witnessed the ‘Blood’ moon. I had little inkling of things to come when I wrote the poem. But now in 2021, the poem reads like a forecast of the future- the moon was indeed warning us.

Taken by my younger daughter through her mobile phone…not too clear but the sky wreaked fear

Deep blue, black or was it shades of gray

The sky, that night of January 31st?

Dark and eerie; warned of havoc, storms, tempests at bay

Glowering overhead,  a still silence

It seemed to say, “Those ignorant, inconspicuous earthlings below.

A tremor enough to end the violence!

They watched in awe-

the Moon rising, as fiery as the Sun,

A ball of blood-red, in amazement they saw

‘Where had it gone, their mellow moon?’

Eclipsed at first, it appeared again in all it’s splendor; searing in rage

Showing it’s ire – that over which lovers’ swoon

And as they stood, in earnest humility

A white moon shone, much larger than before

‘They had been forgiven, she had shown them clemency’

Not to be forgotten, the wonder, the fear, the greatness,

Of that night when the skies had shown their wrath,

A reminder to man to mend his ways and actions, harness-

Earth, to man hath been bestowed

The night of the ‘Blue’ moon, the ‘New’ moon, the ‘Super’ moon

Life allowed and living restored

“Oh Dear Man, Do  not forget too soon.”

The night of the ‘Blue, Blood’ moon.

I am stunned coz I refined the poem about the same event. I saw your comment and was like “no way!” 🙂
You are right, our thoughts ran as tangents to the moon!

    A thoughtful poem…
    well it made me think…
    will we ever learn?
    Is there still time?

Thanks Mark for reading and sharing how you feel. I dont think we’ve learnt and it’s sad. Shocking too that a year of this and so many deaths wasn’t enough. God have mercy on us.

Lovely post Smitha. I agree to the words. Nature is turning. Man has to learn, even has to be stopped. Amongst the guilty, the innocent too die. Sad but true. Mother nature has already started warning

You did see much beyond just the super blue blood moon, Smitha. We sometimes forget that we are at their mercy and must learn to respect our environment, nature and our beautiful home.

Yes Pranitha. The sky actually looked scary that night. We forget so easily the power of nature and test her patience.

What a wonderful poem. I think we have similar views. We see the world as something beyond us, mysterious and beautiful and also as something within us, providing us with not only life, but also with beauty and love and positive strength.

An amazing poem. Thank you for sharing this experience!

Thank you so much for going through the poem and for your feedback on the poem. It’s an honor.
I am totally in awe of nature and somehow everytime I see it, it teaches me something new. It’s really nice to know that we share similar views. Thank you again, so much.

A majestic poem Smitha, that captures the awe of nature and what it might wreak.

Thank you Andrea😊. The skies were really scary that night. Reminded me of Macbeth, the night the witches appeared and reminded the girls’ of Hogwarts.🙂

Of all the poems I read on Super Moon, yours had to be the best my friend and for several reasons. The poetic magic that you cast through your words shined through out as it always does but the message, it’s the message that caught my attention the most. If only, humans heeded the warnings of nature.

Oh really😊. I must check out the other poems. But thank you so much for the compliment. I’m honored. Thank you. Looked up that night and felt really small under the big, black over cast blanket. Yes, so wish the wise men understood.

I agree with you, looked phenomenal ♥️ your words explained everything so beautifully. Wise men, I wish the same!

Wonderful pictures Smitha. Is it the message for the Universe for us !?

    1. Smitha V Avatar

Hello Ben, thank you!…The message is a warning from the Universe to mankind to stop violence because if Nature decides to show it’s anger then in 1 blow, the earth will be destroyed.
