Our prompt today (optional, as always), is to write a poem that poses a series of questions. The questions could be a mix of the serious (“What is the meaning of life?”) and humorous (“What’s the deal with cats knocking things off tables?”), the interruptive (“Could you repeat that?”) and the conversational (“Are those peanuts? Can I have some?”). You can choose to answer them – or just let the questions keep building up, creating a poem that asks the reader to come up with their own answer(s).
Do you have dreams?
(I don't mean 'goals', I mean the ones you see when you're asleep)
Do you think they're real?
Do you believe your mind's playing games?
Do you shrug it off as a concoction of a tired brain?
Do you think it's because you've slept well?
When you get a dream that scares you-
Do you see it as a sign-
Does it worry you endlessly?
Do you wait for something tragic to happen-
Like being hit by a car at the crossroad?
Or do you think you'll trip over a cat and break your head?
Have you wondered what they mean?
Like when you see a snake, does it the future portend?
Is it a reminder to offer milk to the snake God in the temple?
Or is it an awakening of your kundalini*-
A harbinger for spiritual growth?
Or is it the snake in the garden of Eden**?
When you see someone you loved and lost-
Are they paying you a visit from the other world?
If you see them smiling does it mean they're at peace?
Are they telling you they're happy to meet you again?
Or is it your guilty subconscious working after working hours-
Creating a fabricated lie or just wishful thinking?
Do you have dreams?
What do you make of them?
Do you see them with your eyes open or closed?
Tell me, I want to know.
Kundalini*- a energy form that bases your whole body, starts from the base of your spine and spirals to the crown of your head, ultimately escaping to the beyond.
Garden of Eden**-Biblical earthly paradise where Eve is tempted by the snake to taste the forbidden fruit
