Published : It takes six months

It’s six months after dad’s passing…a million emotions have gone through me through these trying times. I am grateful to my husband, my girls, and my sister for holding me and helping me through. My poem ‘ Six months’ is published by Rebelle Society. Thoughts, regrets, memories ebb, and flow but the journey continues.

A excerpt from the poem.

It takes six months
If you ask me —
How long before the tears stop rolling
And words spill out without choking?

Six months —
To freeze the brain
so it does not wander
to areas marked Danger

Six months —
To numb your senses
So they don’t crumble
Under the strain

Amazing it’s been that long already, Smitha! I am still trying to deal with my mother’s death and she died in 1994! But you were lucky to have someone so dear to you. Thank you for wishing us a good 4th. Some of us still appreciate this country with her flaws, but her fierce indepedence, the energy that made us unique. A day to take stock.

Yes Lynn…time flies and yet when it comes to sorrow, it sometimes feels like it stands still. I am fortunate that my children and my husband have been patient with me while I was processing the loss. Its not easy for those around someone who’s grieving.
I hope you’re feeling better now. I feel the same about India…with all the country’s flaws there’s something that works.
Independence day is as you rightly said is, ‘ A day to take stock.’
Wishing you a great week ahead.

I would say at least six months to get past the first shock and start to gain acceptance. Going over to finish reading …
