Published: My dad, the Pied Piper

My poem, ‘ My dad, the Pied Piper’ was published on 26th November 2021, on my dad’s first death anniversary by Spillword Press. It was very kind of them to publish the poem on the very date. I wrote the poem a month earlier and sent it to them informing them about the death anniversary in the comments section of the Submissions page. I am also telling you this, so you know that this was how I felt a month before his death anniversary- I felt a sudden longing to see him and hear from him again. On the day of the anniversary, however, I felt stronger, at ease.

The link to the poem is below.

Your phone lies dead in my bedside drawer
I plug the charger in
It doesn’t bother me how long it’ll take
to revive- ‘coz I’m not sure
why I’m doing this
what I’m looking for
what I expect to find

I hear a beep – it comes alive
And I wish it were that easy
to bring back to life
anything dead

Your comment made me read the poem again. It will be two years since my dad passed. Thank you for your kind words🙏. It makes me believe that it’s an emptiness that can never get filled, no matter the time.

It’s special to have this published on the anniversary Smitha. It’s a beautiful poem, speaking powerfully about the yearning to have contact with the person again who is no longer here.

It was, Andrea… so amazingly thoughtful of the publications to do it. Despite the sadness around it, they made me happy with this gesture. I’m so glad you liked reading the poem. After clicking the ‘send’ button,I hadn’t been too sure. I’m glad I did, now.

Thank you so much Manja. Wrote a poem after a really long time. Somehow, the poems had stopped. I’m so glad it touched you. Thank you for the share, for the heart and your words XXX

Hi Smitha, I have not as yet lost anyone close to me, but I can imagine how it feels because of Michael’s couple of close calls and long illnesses. This is a lovely poem.

Hi Robbie. Thank you for your warm words. You are one of the few people who i know who hasn’t gone through it and yet is extremely understanding. I understand how bad it must have been to see Michael going through it. I’ve experienced it with my older one too. I hope Michael’s doing well now.

Hi Smitha, Michael is doing better. Thank you. I think I understand because I have a strong emotional connection with people and their lives and loves. Have a lovely evening.

You do, Robbie, and I feel fortunate that we crossed paths. The world is a better place because of people like you. You too, have a lovely evening ❤
