NaPoWriMo Day 4: A pickled poem

Today’s challenge is to write a poem . . . in the form of a poetry prompt. If that sounds silly, well, maybe it is! But it’s not without precedent. The poet Mathias Svalina has been writing surrealist prompt-poems for quite a while, posting them to Instagram. You can find examples here, and here, and here.

1. Take a walk in the park - slow and deliberate
2. Smell the earth and taste the breeze
3. Feel the petals of fallen flowers and watch the creatures that crawl beneath it
4. Check out the slug that's making its way up the bark of a Mango tree
5. Imagine you are the tree - your inspiration is making its way up slowly, very slowly
6. Slipping and sliding, persisting, failing- no pressure. It's moving up.
7. Up the trunk, to the branches. They are your hands.
8. To the fresh, green leaves- they are the blank pages of your book
8. The fruit are your words, dangling at the end of the branches
9. Take your pick.Choose wisely.
10. Do not pick the overripe ones- they are like overused words.
11.It will make your poem rot. Choose the tender, green ones - still new.
12.Dice it and add the salt of your emotions
13. Sprinkle your sugary charm and spicy temperament.
14.Add a little vinegar to make it tangy, to make it last.
15. That pickle is your poem.

That’s really interesting because you’re using he prompt while writing the prompt!
