Today’s challenge is to write a poem about a mythical person or creature doing something unusual – or at least something that seems unusual in relation to that person/creature. For example, what does Hercules do when he loses a sock in the dryer? If a mermaid wants to pick up rock-climbing as a hobby, how does she do that? What happens when a mountain troll makes pancakes?
I chose the Greek mythical creature, ‘Chimera’ which was depicted as a lion in the fore with a fire-breathing goat in the middle back and a tail with a serpent’s head in the rear.
Here’s my poem, ‘The Chimera at the movies’
The chimera went to the movies one day
'One ticket please,' he roared, handing a ten dollar bill.
"Sorry, sir," the ticket collector bellowed, and the chimera hissed
'Excuse me! Isn't it $10 per head?" A waft
"Absolutely sir," the collector sounded relieved,"And you have three!"
'Don't be silly,' the Chimera bleated, losing his patience.
The collector stood his ground. "Its the rules,Sir."
'Rules?" The Chimera said annoyed. 'Can't you see I have one body?'
" We charge per head, Sir," the collector insisted
And collected a $30.
In a huff, the Chimera strode into the theatre
with a bucket of popcorn in its tail.
The hall was dark, the seats looked plush. 'This should be good,' he mused
climbing up the steps, to his seat. Once he was there, he looked perplexed
'Which way was he to sit?' There was one screen but he had two heads-
In two opposite directions!
If he were to sit on his butt, how would his goat-head see?
And if his goat-head saw, then how wouls his lion-head?
The movie began; the lion head pondered and the goat-head breathed fire
While the serpent head raised itself from the rear to watch the show.
