NaPoWriMo Day 16: Heavenly grace

This is my second take on the NaPoWriMo prompt (to write a curtal sonnet) for today. I used the rhyme scheme ABCABC DBDCC.

After writing NaPoWriMo Day 16- Save the sunflowers on the current situation in Ukraine, I needed to write something lighter.

How delicate must be the hand that created those dainty things?
Fluttering eyelids in shades of blues, oranges, yellows and whites
decked with milky circles, topaz ovals and ebony lace
dipping into velvety bowls of nectar; a pair of gossamer wings
One moment here and another gone as twinkling fairy lights
flitting and flying as if it were an ethereal race

Is it the same hand that made the rocky mountain, the stormy sea
The trees, the grass, the starry skies
Small and big animals, birds that fly, and you and me?
Each so unique in nature and face
Heaven's grace

Yes, the other one was a little too heavy. I needed to write this to move on. I’m glad you enjoyed reading it. Thanks to your comments, I’m reading m poems again too….in the heat of NaPoWriMo, I just churn out poems mechanically barely remembering what I’ve written precisely. It’s nice to go back to it now.

I had just read your last sonnet on the tragic situation in Ukraine, and it hit hard – a feeling for me of pure disappointment in humanity. This piece brings the opposite feel, a melodic sonnet to all that is perfect in the world and where the hope we all need at certain times in life resides. Wonderful and perfect for this Sunday. Thank you, Smitha.

It’s such a pleasure to read your thoughts on the sonnet, Randall. I’m so glad this sonnet elevated your spirits. It’s so important to keep our hopes up and not let what’s happening around us to pull us down. My creativity has been at its lowest the last few days…I’d been feeling stuck with the prompts. So, your appreciation of the poem comes as a pleasant reminder that all is not lost. Thank you for your words. Wishing you a very happy and blessed Easter,Randall. 🌸

[…] Death's on a rampage like an elephant in musth He's charging towards mankind like El Toro* on the loose Burning with fury, bloodthirsty, unleashed, unabashed An emotionless predator( how elastic is his girth?) Last,it was the virus; now, he has a new ruse 'Coz His bulging appetite remains unappeased So, the wretched spirit is on the rounds again hungry for more; this time he's tightened the noose around the land of sunflowers, and grain. He roams the streets, gulping ravenously, unrestrained. God save,Ukraine! Copyright@smithavishwanathsblog.com.
