The prompt on the 30th of April by the facebook group TSL, was to write a poem using a line from a song you like. I chose to write it on a song that’s very special to me- ‘Edelweiss’ from the Sound of Music.
The truth is I’m no good at singing. But I would sing this song for my little one when she was a baby- after she’d been given a shower, powdered and swaddled and was ready to sleep. This was my go-to lullaby. I had a few others too, which I might just post. She listened to me with so much love, that after a while, I did believe I was quite the singer . I’m sharing this song today as it happens to be the not-so- little one’s 18th birthday today. We’re posponing the celebrations though until the 20th as it’s exam time.
Note: I’ve posted only two verses of my poem-song here as I’m participating in Quadrille night! Sleepy times, the prompt from Sarah at dVerse ~ Poets Pub, which is to use a form of the word sleep in a 44-word poem (excluding title). There is no need for meter of rhyme in this form. It’s my first time taking part, so I’m hoping i got it right.
Baby’s breath
Baby’s breath, Baby’s breath
You look happy to greet me
Clean and bright, small and light
You look happy to meet me
Baby’s breath, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow, my darling
Sleep, sleep and dream away
You’ve got my heart forever

P.S. Below is the original poem I had written
Baby’s breath
Baby’s breath, Baby’s breath
You look happy to greet me
Clean and bright, small and light
You look happy to meet me
Angel of God, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow, my darling
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my baby forever
Go to bed, go to bed
Dream away, my darling
Clean and bright, small and light
You’ve got my heart forever
Baby’s breath, Baby’s breath
Angel of God, may you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow, forever
You can listen to the original song below and if any of you is a singer, would love to hear you sing my version of the song 🙂
