Thursday Doors: Fort Kochi (Part 1)

Yayy! I’m happy to be taking part in Thursday Doors again, after what seems like ages. The thing is, it isn’t easy to take pictures of apartment doors in Mumbai – I don’t want to be answering questions on why and what I am doing. So, I only manage to participate in ‘Thursday Doors’ every time I travel.

Dan is the wonderful host of Thursday Doors and he says, ‘Welcome to Thursday Doors, a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favourite door photos from around the world. ‘

I managed to collect enough door photographs during my recent trip to Fort Kochi and Willingdon island in Kerala to last me a month of Thursday doors that is if I do not share it all in one post.

So, here is the first set of photographs I took during the four-day trip to the islands.

The three entrance doors to Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica

The Santa Cruz Basilica is one of the nine Basilica in Kerala. It was originally built by the Portuguese and elevated to a Cathedral in 1558. The British demolished the building and commissioned a new building in 1887. It was proclaimed Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984.

The door to a business centre in the BTH Sarovaram hotel, Cochin

The above door is ordinary-looking but I found the extensive artwork around the door intriguing. The detailed work around this door stood out against the brick walls.

This pretty door was locked like many other stores in Fort Kochi whose businesses had been adversely impacted by the pandemic

I’m ending this post with one more door to add a touch of green to this post – as a reminder to be mindful of the environment. Here is a door flanked by potted plants and creepers on either side like guards. In a place like Kerala, where you probably just have to throw a seed for a plant to sprout, getting this look must come easy.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the doors here. Wishing you all on the West a happy Thursday/ Friday, for those on the East.

Cheers,

Beautiful doors, Smitha! I don’t take photos of my neighbor’s doors either. There are some beautiful doors close by, but I have to park my car somewhere and walk close to the houses. It would be embarrassing if the owners see me. 🙂

These are all wonderful doors, Smitha, and that last one is a beautiful photograph. It’s amazing to see that wooden door flanked in green. Thanks for joining us for Thursday Doors – I look forward to seeing the rest of the doors.

I had to laugh at your comment about not sharing all of them at once. I think we all understand that feeling. I hope you have a great weekend.

Hi Smitha, these are lovely doors and quite varied with makes them even more interesting. Thanks for joining in the fun. I have the same limitation as you do. Johannesburg is a city where there are high levels of crims so I am also uncomfortable to share any local doors and risk the ire of a home owner.

Hi Robbie…ah,you understand how it is…exactly my predicament. People have cameras outside their doors here and I don’t really want to be caught on camera taking a picture of their door. They’d never understand and would only think it fishy. So, I need to collect pics only when I travel 🙂

So glad you liked all three doors. Fort Kochi is a pretty place. Both nature and man are responsible for the beauty of the place.
