This week I’m feeling very thankful.
First, my daughter was finally able to donate her hair to cancer patients. She’s been trimming it and getting split ends removed so that her hair is healthy. That’s one of the criteria other than the fact that it should be a minimum of 12″ long and should not be treated. After 4 long years, her hair was finally long enough to be donated. The purpose of sharing it here is to create awareness. I know many would love to do it- some don’t because they do not know the rules while others are not blessed with long hair. For all those who do not know how to go about it, please note that the hair should not be treated and a minimum 12″ is required. It should be plaited and sent to the donation centre. The hair should not fall on the floor while being cut.
Secondly, I’m very glad for the opportunity of selling my art to charity. Someone, who I barely know shared a message about a charity event and asked if I would like to participate. The money collected was to be used for providing hearing aids to underprivileged children with severe hearing difficulties and also towards cancer treatment for those with financial difficulties. The deal was that if the paintings sold, the money would go to charity and if they didn’t sell, the paintings would be returned. 27 artists donated 90 paintings for the cause. I donated 9 of my paintings for the cause and I am very happy to share that all the below 9 paintings, worth Rs 47,500.00 sold. The best thing is that most of these paintings ( 5 of them) have found their way to homes where I know they will be truly loved.
Art is something that came to me during covid- I hadn’t planned on continuing it or ever dreamed that I could make a difference in someone’s life through it. But, the money that I have earned from it and the joy I get doing it are immeasurable. It’s an amazing feeling to walk into someone’s home and see my art up on their wall. I’m thankful that I got to take part in this charity just before I leave this city of dreams, after spending four amazing years here. I can’t help but feel it’s nothing short of a miracle- all of it.
