Thursday Doors: At Studio 1 hotel, Dubai

I am addicted to Thursday Doors, but, haven’t participated in the last month or more as I hadn’t travelled and had no door pictures. But, as soon as I had the opportunity, I clicked a few pictures right away.

These were taken during my recent trip to Dubai. They are doors of restaurants, in the hotel in which we stayed. Somehow, everywhere else I went, I found only glass doors which were shiny and clean all right but without character.

This door looks like it has a story to tell. I like the rustic touch to it

This door was for sale inside a furniture shop. These doors from Rajasthan are used as decorative items in mansions.
A phone booth that wasn’t really one. I liked the cute booth and the door.

I hope to participate more regularly henceforth in this weekly challenge hosted by Dan Anton. We’ve moved homes and the new place has enormous homes with magnificent doors- it’s the one thing that I got excited about after moving. If it’s not an encroachment on privacy, then I’ll soon have a treasure trove of ‘door’ photographs.

    This has context of your penning experiences in Dhaka and Dubai airport….I was impressed by the lucidity of your expression……I found your narration authentic and it touched a chord inside…..by the way, TNR and I were contemporaries in Amdavad way back in the nineteen seventies……I knew your hubby on Kochi in 1996 during my sojourn in Thrissur…

      I know, right. I thought these kind of doors hand to be bought from Rajasthan but now furniture stores are selling it in malls. It’s become quite the rage. Who knew 😀

    It’s good to see you again, Smitha! I love that rustic old door at the taco place. It has an old (US) west feel to it. The phone booth is a cute door and it brings back memories of a time when that was our only option to let people know we were OK on a trip (or needed something). You’re right about glass doors, it’s hard to make them interesting. At least those at the top are in an interesting entrance.

      Thank you so much, Dan. It was exciting to see all these doors in the hotel…made me think of Thursday doors instantly.
      Oh yes, those days when we waited for our turn outside the booth to make a call and then spoke nineteen to a dozen with our eyes on the metre and hung up abruptly when the charges reached our limited budgets. Lol.
      Now, it’s so easy with free what’s app calls. It’s a blessing.

    I love these unique doors, Smitha! My sister-in-law visited Dubai on her trip to India two years ago. She and her husband will return next year because they got some credit from the last travel. My husband’s family has some roots in India when their grandfather was stationed there.

        I think she and her husband went to quite a few places, Smitha. She is interested in genealogy. She found many distant relatives in different parts of India so she went to visit them. I have to ask her more details when I see her next time. My husband’s grandfather was British official stationed in India. His dad was born in India. The family went to Australia where my husband was born. I don’t know too far into our travel plan at this time. 😊
