ART : In the country

I did this painting two days ago, using a limited palette of ultramarine blue, yellow ochre, alizarin red, cadmium yellow, and white. While I was tempted to use just one more color (I so needed Burnt umber), I did not. At the end of two hours of painting, this is how the canvas looked like.

This is my first painting from a photograph. Its not exact. I changed the color of the sky a bit and did not do much detailing.

Here’s a clearer picture of the painting

This year, I’d like my hands to move easily on the canvas. I don’t want to be terrified at the sight of a blank canvas or sheet and I realize the only way that’s going to happen is if I practice a lot more.

I genuinely admire and applaud what you are doing. This is a lovely piece, and the colors are vivid. A well-known great artist I know often talks about how painting takes work. I don’t have the energy to learn to paint and put in the necessary hours to get to where you are. Your work is lovely. However, I believe the more you paint and study, the better people get. The same is true of poetry. I have so much to learn and constantly doubt my ability. I am always looking to be better. Thank you for sharing your journey with us—blessings to you.

Thank you, Joni, for your words of appreciation. It is very encouraging. I’ve realized I enjoy art very much, and I do not tire of it even after sitting for hours at a stretch. It’s kind of tough, though, giving those many hours due to the distraction of writing, blogging, and reading. When I’m doing one, I’m thinking of the other :). I feel like you… that I have so much to learn and like you, doubt plagues me. I think the only way to get over it is to keep at it, and hopefully, one day, we feel more confident.
Thank you for your blessings. I wish you love and light.

Beautiful work, Smitha. Your words and thinking makes me reflect on the understanding to be good at anything, it must come naturally ~ and your comment of wanting your hands to flow across the canvas with happen sooner than you think 🙂

Thank you so much, Randall🙏. It’s very kind of you to say. I don’t know if it comes naturally to me. I try and have a long, long way to go. But, I do love painting. It’s one thing that I could sit for hours doing and not get distracted🙂. I appreciate your confidence in my skills very much. I hope I can keep up.

That’s lovely, and I think your decision to simplify the view has made it more beautiful than it would be if you’d fiddled around with the details!

Thank you very much, Sarah. I’m very happy to know you liked the painting. It was my first attempt at doing a photograph, so, I wasn’t too sure. Your words are encouraging and make me want to do more like these.
