I’m catching up with the days I missed. The prompt on Day 2 was ‘And now for today’s (optional) prompt! The Romanian-born poet Paul Celan once wrote a series of surrealist questions and answers. Here are a couple of examples:
What is forgetting?
An unripe apple stabbed by a spear.
What is a tear?
A scale awaiting a weight.
Today’s prompt asks you to begin by picking 5-10 words from the following list. Next, write out a question for each word that you’ve selected (e.g., what is seaweed?)’.
The poetry resource for the day is Jacket2. This online magazine features a wealth of podcasts, reviews, interviews, essays, and other uncategorizable writings about contemporary poetry.
My poetry for today based on the words owl, fog, river, salt, longing, miracle, song taken from the provided list is below
What is an owl?
Grandpa watching me in the dark
What is fog?
A gossamer veil over demure nature’s face.
What is a river?
A white meandering tape from heaven’s cassette player
What is salt?
Powdery bits of colliding stars fallen in the sea
What is longing?
Weight of a thousand galaxies breathed in
What is a miracle?
The healing fragrance of sweet magnolias.
What is a song?
A magic spell to open shut doors
