Published: Seven Days of Valentine

My poem, ‘Seven Days of Valentine’, has been published by Masticadores USA. In case you’re wondering why I’m talking about Valentine’s in May, well, it’s because I wrote the poem during Valentine’s week. Since the publication had loads of submissions, they couldn’t publish it then. After that, I delayed it as I wanted to update my bio with the link to my novel on Amazon. And now, it’s finally published.

Here is the excerpt of the poem. You can read the entire poem here.

Rose Day

On the first day of Valentine's week,
Love shook and rumbled in agony
Four thousand and three hundred roses had been buried alive
Buds and full blooms
Some died under the impact
and others of the endless waiting
under a pile of brick and stone
for help to arrive.

Propose Day

On the second day of Valentine's week,
Love whimpered expectantly
A little boy was pulled out of the debris, smiling-
He and his younger brother.
Pictures floated around the globe
brought back memories of Alan Kurdi
There was hope yet; perhaps some, if not all
of those fragrant blooms could still be saved
If the world dug into its pockets
to spread some love in a garden other than their own.

Note: 2023 Valentine week coincided with the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria.

You’re so welcome. It helps to get your name out there. By the way, have you ever done the challenges on dVerse? They do a lot of different poetry styles. I thought you might be interested. You’re always welcome. I love poetry (all kinds). Once a month on dVerse we get together and read our poetry out loud on Google Meets. It’s a great community over there. I go to the Saturday readings. 🥳
