Today, I have two doors from Melbourne that my daughter sent me for the Thursday Doors challenge that Dan hosts.

The board says, ‘RMIT University’. So, I googled to find out more. The image that popped up on Google was one of a modern styled building.

So this is what I got from the net-
‘A view of the Magistrate Court building at the UHPH Conference 2018 RMIT University at the corner of La Trobe and Russell Streets Melbourne. The city watch-house, used for holding alleged offenders until they were officially remanded or released on bail, operated on the site next to the Magistrates’ Court from 1892.  (I Willis, 2018)’

I prefer Victorian colonial-style architecture to modern-day buildings. It’s like walking back in time into another era. It’s grandiose. These are all the doors I have for today. I’ve asked my girls to send me more; hopefully, they remember to do it.

In the meantime, here’s a painting I did last week. I did it after a gap of three months as I was too busy or too stressed about my novel. And although I could have picked up the brush three weeks ago, I realized it’s difficult getting back to art once you’ve stopped, or else it was for me. I found excuses not to begin- the room was too big, it was too sunny there, I felt lost in the room, and it went on and on. So, we got a carpenter to dismantle the cot and move it from my daughter’s room which is smaller and fix it in the bigger room – the so-called ‘Art room’. After the moving and setting, it took me another week to begin. It took my husband to say, ‘Why haven’t you started painting?’ (He was sick and tired of seeing me fret over the book and hoped painting would distract me).

And so I began, failing at first, frustrated that my colours appeared muddy on mixing and then determined to make it work.

Here’s my painting ‘Somewhere’ done using acrylic paints on a canvas cloth 16″ x 12″. The truth is doing it soothed my nerves and eased my mind.

And this is the painting in a frame. I just had an empty black frame that I had purchased from Ikea so I used it. White, perhaps, will look better. What do you think?

Last but not least, I hope all of you moms had a lovely Mother’s Day on the 14th of May. With my girls being away, I didn’t expect anything. However, my older one posted a review of my novel, which got published on Amazon on the 14th. It was the sweetest surprise, especially since my older one is not much of a reader and does not believe she is a writer, though I have told her otherwise. I understand how hard it must have been to do this in between University, cooking, cleaning the room and doing everything one has to do in Uni. This, among other things, made me a very grateful mom.
