I’m participating in Linda G Hills SoCs (Stream of Consciousness Saturday) challenge. The prompt for today is ‘one/won’. The challenge requires that we go with the flow to write a post on the prompt without editing or giving it prior thought. Today’s prompt came easy.
When I opened my WordPress to begin writing for the prompt, I noticed Dan’s SoCS post on the conversation I had with him, Cheryl and David had been published for the day. The three of them were amazing hosts and even managed to serve me a dish from India (Dan shares the recipe on the post).
Here’s an excerpt of Dan’s post, where we talk about my writing journey, debut novel, ‘Coming Home’ and my blog.
“Dan, I see an auto-rickshaw pulling up to the door. I think Smitha has arrived.”
“Thanks Cheryl. Let’s get this party started.”
“I’ll have…”
“Um, David, I think we should wait for Smitha.”
“OK, Cheryl.”
“Hi Smitha. I’m glad you could join us today.”
“Hi Dan. It’s great to be here.”
“Hi Smitha. Before one of the regulars goes crazy, can I get you something to drink?”
I was reading Dan’s post (click on the link to read the entire post) and I clicked on the buy link for ‘Coming Home’ that Dan shared on the post. Guess what! There was a review on Amazon.com on ‘Coming Home’ that I hadn’t seen. It gave me a second reason to smile.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Story!Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 21, 2023
Coming Home is a delightful story about Shanaya, a successful young Indian banker whose family has arranged for her to be married. Several years pass before she actually meets her intended husband. Shanaya
focuses on her career and rises to upper management in the banking profession in Dubai and India. Always in the back of her mind is a man she once met on a flight to Hong Kong…
I read this book from start to finish yesterday. Its rich cultural details and spell-binding plot kept me reading. Coming Home also gives insight into international banking, the author’s occupation for many years. Highly recommended!

Thanks, Cheryl, for your amazing review of Coming Home. Your review came as a huge surprise.
So, that’s another time I won today, the first one being Dan’s post https://nofacilities.com/2023/07/29/smitha-v-visits-the-bar-socs/ and the second, Cheryl’s lovely review.
Last but not the least, I’d like to share a little poem that I wrote (totally, SoCS) when I saw a rainbow on Thursday evening. I was out in the balcony after a very long time to enjoy my evening cup of tea. The weather was miraculously pleasant- not hot and humid as it otherwise is, here in Dhaka. I placed my cup on the table and parted the clothes hanging on the cloth line, so, I could look at the sky and the lake. And voila! In front of me in all its glory was a sight I had been waiting to see for a long time. I remember moving from window to window when I lived in Mumbai hoping to catch a rainbow( everybody else seemed to see it after every rain and post a picture of it in the building whatsapp group) but I was unsuccessful. Seeing one now, when I least expected it, felt like a blessing straight from the heavens.

I don’t even know if the below line are fit to be called a poem but the words burst forth and I wrote them down without editing it.
I saw the flowers in the balcony fluttering tenderly Inviting me to come. And so I did With my cup of tea. I set it down carefully My head bent Grateful for the cool breeze that blew An occurrence so rare. Little did I know that a spectacle Rarer and more precious Awaited me there. I did not see it at first I was looking straight ahead Then I raised my head to thank the Lord. When I saw Him smiling Down at me Letting out a gasp 'A rainbow' whispered, I Racing in to get my phone I pleaded with Him not to leave There He stayed where I left Him Until I had captured His smile.

Wishing all of you a very Happy Weekend!
Cheers,
Smitha V
