#Thursday Doors 091123, #Tanka Tuesday, #Floweroftheday

These are pictures of doors I took during my recent visit to the Taj Mahal.

Door to enter the grounds

Once you cross the above door, you need to walk around 300 metres to reach the West Gate entrace. There are 3 gates in all to the Taj. The West Gate is supposedly the most beautiful.

The door at the West Gate

If you’re wondering what’s so beautiful about this gate, look at the next picture

This is the West Gate which houses the above door

I’m participating in the Thursday Doors Challenge hosted by Dan Antion.

I’m also participating in the Flower of the Day challenge. The below is the picture of a flower I saw at the India Gate.

Callistemon ‘Red Rocket’ or Bottlebrush

The Tanka Tuesday challenge for this week is to write a syllabic poem using a kigo (season) word. This week, I tried writing a mondo. It’s written in two stanzas. The first stanza asks a question and the second stanza answers the question.I used the kigo word ‘sneezes’ from the India database link provided by Colleen.

Catches the sun's rays
Shimmering attractively
Home to live in or ensnare?

Hungry landlord waits
'Ah-choo,' my husband sneezes
Dainty silken strands quiver

I took this picture on our morning walk

The weather is pleasant in the mornings these days. So, we’ve started going to the park for our morning walks. In celebration of the weather, we ended our walk with a coffee at the cafe in the park. When we stepped out, this beautiful web caught our attention and we stopped to take a picture. I had no idea then, that I would write this week’s Tanka Tuesday on this photograph. But here it is.

And here’s a tanka prose for the festival season.

The walls are painted, the drapes are washed, the tiles are polished and the doorway is decorated with marigolds and painted diyas. Diwali, the festival of lights is around the corner. The girls are back from university and of-course I’m thrilled to have them home.

A sweet aroma
The fragrance of Diwali
wafts in the hall
The holidays have begun
The children’s laughter rings loud

The doors of the west gate are amazing, Smitha. Thanks for sharing those photos and thanks for including your poetry and that crazy looking flower. I like that a lot.

Thanks, Dan. The gateway is stunning. I described it in my previous post. Each inch of it is carved, and each carving signifies something.
Ha ha… the flower. It was the first time I saw it. It makes the tree look like a Christmas tree.
