via Daily Prompt: Retreat

I tried to be friendly,

I tried to  show empathy,

But you only opened my deepest wounds;

And I had to retreat!

You say I am always talking,

You say you are always listening,

But it was you I was entertaining;

And again I had to retreat!

You never tried once to kill the silence,

You never tried once to make me laugh,

But I did not want to hurt you,

And I tried hard not to retreat.

I am sorry, I can not try any more,

I am sorry, I can not understand,

But I am most sorry I let you judge me,

And now,  I am happy to retreat!
