The below poem won the first prize at ALS. I followed Rudyard Kipling’s form of writing the poem ‘IF’ which is my favorite poem of all times because it brings back memories of a period in life that I can look back upon today with pride and say, ” I kept my head when all around me lost theirs. I trusted myself when all men doubted me and gave allowance for their doubting too.” It wouldn’t be right if I did not attach the poem written by Rudyard Kipling which serves as a lighthouse in the tempest of life.
When love not professed by a fleeting glance
But stands the test of time,
When tender, sweet lies not the foundation
But hard truths dealt with, before the vow,
When no masquerade awaited to be unearthed
But in all honesty, promise made for life to keep!
When life a challenge, yet the journey beautiful
And living easier, no fear of the unknown,
When no words are said
And yet no action misconstrued,
When no explanation given
And yet, all understood!
When you are loved for who you are
And are not expected to change;
When you can speak, your opinions heard
And are not expected to conform,
When you can fly and follow your dreams
And are not expected to refrain,
Then, you, my child are a fortunate soul
And your life blessed; for a true lover you found!
Now for the poem “IF” by Rudyard Kipling
