Wrapped in a fleece blanket
I saw you,
In the nurse’s arms
So little
A frown between your baby brows
Were you really mine?
A tadpole, hair standing up
Big, black eyes
blinking
Locked with mine
Smiled
And made me theirs
Forever
The world around faded
Was, just you
Just me
And that one moment
Frozen
inΒ the labyrinth
Of time
Then they whisked you away
All else, a blur
Decades later
They sayΒ I’m forgetting-
Have forgotten
Numbers, names
Dates
A pack of garbled images
Places, stories
But-
Β I remember
the sun streaming inΒ
half-open windows
A stretcher
Hustle-bustle
in theΒ long corridor
Voices
And a smile
Soft
Radiating light
A new life
Shutting out the noise, a silence
I see you
I see me
And that moment
Frozen
Forever
In time
All else, a blur
