In honour of today’s being the 22nd day of Na/GloPoWriMo 2022, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that uses repetition. You can repeat a sound, a word, a phrase, an image, or any combination of things.
My poem- School mornings
One eye squeezed like a lemon the other forced open Stretch for the phone and switch it on- it's still 5:21 Still nine minutes more Close those droopy eyelids and glide into dreamland again 5 :26 wake up with a jerk, Four minutes more Close the eyes like before 5:45! Run! Turn the heater on And iron the uniform Draw the curtain Unroll the yoga mat Sit in sukhasana* Morning meditation First, the day's astrological prediction Then, Facebook and instagram notifications Crap! 6:10, close eyes, breathe Focus on Juliana's voice 'I am worthy, I am powerful I am grateful for all that I am' 6:25 a.m. stand up, join hands in prayer - pranaam asana, stretch arms up - hasta uthan asana bend down to touch toes- padha hastha asana Equestrian pose - ashwa sanchalan asana Mountain pose - parvata asana Touch knee, chest, forehead to the floor in ashtanga namaskar. Now lift head in cobra pose, lift chest with head in upward dog. Mountain pose, equestrian pose, touch toes, stretch arm, join hands in prayer- one cycle complete Repeat. 7.15 a.m. turn on the flame place the griddle, Now take a ladle and pour the batter in the centre, Spread it in a circle drizzle some oil and let it sizzle then flip it over and shout 'Breakfast's ready' Hurry! Pour another ladle Yell, 'Breakfast's on the table' Then pour another and another. Yell, 'Have your breakfast It's getting cold! It's not right making food wait God will be angry You better hurry!' 7:35 Lunch box packed, kiss angel smile, say, 'Have a good day.' Wave goodbye Sigh Another school morning run done!
