Art: Benaras Ghats

This painting was inspired by my trip to Benaras in early March. I finished it on the 31st of March but I missed sharing it here as I got busy with NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) which required participants to write 30 poems in 30 days. Then May came and I got busy with fixing my blog which for some reason developed issues of its own. It took me so long to fix it that I got fed up. And while I had decided this year to ensure I read at least 5 blogs each day, I fell behind both with my writing as well as my reading. Now that things have slowed down- with the children’s exams done and their results out, our holidays completed, I plan to pick up where I left. That includes sharing this painting that got lost somewhere during those months of chaos.

The painting is done on an A3 size watercolour paper. I used ink and a limited color palette for the painting. I had done an earlier painting on Benaras before I visited the place. This time around it was much easier to draw the structures as I had the picture in my head – I had felt the stones, seen how they connected with each other, the angles of the steps and the curve of the temple domes. Every time I got stuck, all I had to do was close my eyes and imagine being there again and then it fell in place.

Finally, this was the result. Do let me know what you think.

To all those who read my blog, and to all my friends, thank you for reading my writing despite me being MIA in terms of reading your posts. I intend to catch up on all your posts by the end of this month. I’m setting a deadline so I don’t slack off again for whatever reason. And if I do, I should have a genuine reason.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

Cheers,

P.S. if you want to buy the art, it’s available for sale. You can message me for the price or just check in the link ‘Art Shop’ above.
