Today’s challenge was to write a poem that relies on repetition. The repetition could be a phrase or a word. Examples are “The Bells” by Edgar Allan Poe or Joe Harjo’s “She had some horses”.
I used repetition of stanza.
Wonder what the future will be,
Fifty years from now,
Wonder if I’ll be there to see,
The changes then and now,
Will there be war or will there be peace,
Will the world be a whole or will it cease?
Will terror destroy or will love preserve,
Will the wise unite and the ignorant get what they deserve?
Wonder what the future will be,
Fifty years from now,
Wonder if I’ll be there to see,
The changes then and now,
Will there be butterflies and will there be bees,
Will there be rivers or only seas?
Will there be flowers and will there be trees,
Will there be sparrows and will there be geese?
Wonder what the future will be,
Fifty years from now,
Wonder if I’ll be there to see,
The changes then and now,
Will the people walk or will they fly,
Will they talk or converse with the eye?
Will there be buses and will there be cars,
Will earth be our home or will it be Mars?
Wonder what the future will be,
Fifty years from now,
Wonder if I’ll be there to see,
The changes then and now,
Will our children be happy or will they be sad,
Will they say we were good or will they say we were bad?
Will they feel we destroyed what was ours and took what was theirs,
Will they have bright, colorful dreams or dark, murky nightmares?
Wonder what the future will be,
Fifty years from now,
Wonder if I really want to see,
The changes then and now.
