I haven’t written in a week. I am simply busy. “But you’re not even working anymore!” I can hear you say. But I am! is the only response I can give while you look at me incredulously.
According to Physics, work is what you do when you exert force on an object causing it to move or be displaced. With all that I’m currently doing, scientifically speaking, I AM WORKING!
As per the English dictionary meaning work is defined as an “activity involving mental or physical effort to achieve a desired result.” So literally too, I AM WORKING!
What you may ask is it that I do or what is it that my work entails?
Now I’m wondering why you would ask me this. It may be either of two things: that you are unaware of what constitutes my work or you choose to live in a fantasy world where you have been taught to believe “work” is one that has a monetary reward. For the benefit of those in the former category, I wish to sincerely explain and for those who belong to the latter, I can only say, the word for “work with monetary reward”, is “JOB”. So, while a ‘JOB” is what I do not have, “Work” is what I definitely do.
Coming back to your earlier question, “What is it that you do?”
Well, here it is – and it’s only the tip of the ice-berg.
Educating young minds,
Rejoicing lost finds,
Conflict resolving,
Listening and advising,
These are a few of my everyday tasks,
Cooking and Cleaning,
Training and entertaining…
Repeating instructions,
And watching them executed in small fractions,
Are a few of my everyday tasks…
Answering never-ending whys,
Receiving exasperated sighs,
Turning of heads, Rolling of eyes,
Some of the pit-falls of these endless tasks…
But when at the end of the day,
On my back I lay,
And my tired eyes do close,
I remember the smiles, the hugs and the kisses,
And then I know, I’ll do it willingly… all over again these everyday tasks.
Do you understand why I’m so busy now? Do you agree I’m working? Would you ever call someone who isn’t earning a salary a non-working woman/man, again? For if you do, you know how wrong you’d be, scientifically and literally 🙂 .
