If today be my last

live6

If today be my last

I would have regrets none

For I have traveled

the journey

the crossroads, the turns

the dead ends, the ups and the downs

I have ignored that which I could not have

and I have been grateful for that which was mine

I have not maligned another’s name
and I have worked hard and prayed harder

I have loved with all my heart

And have walked away from those I could not

I have forgiven those who erred

and have forgotten enough so it did not hurt

I have been no saint

But I have been no sinner either

I have been human

and humane as He expected me to be

So, if today be my last

Pray do not mourn my going

Know that I have been happy

My cup filleth over

I am as ready as I could ever be

Do not grieve for me

Do not try looking for a reason for my going

for there is none

Other than that the time has come

Do not discuss me as a piece of news

Do not read new meaning into my writings

Or analyse my art

See them both

as if I were alive

And if it should in some way

guide you on your journey

let it be so but no more

Know that I enter the kingdom of Heaven

And for that you must rejoice

And you must go on

And while you’re at it, be brave

Until we meet again

On the other side

Goodbye

Farewell
