This plant grows in the building garden and everytime I go for my walk, I wish I had my phone to take a picture of the flower so I could post it for Cee’s FOTD challenge (Flower of the day). A few days ago, I happened to have my phone when I was on my way to the dentist (the dentist happens to be at a walking distance from home) and one way to get to her is through the garden. So, I finally got to take this photograph of this rain-bathed plant

As per wikipedia, the plant belongs to a group of herbaceous perennial plants in the family Costaceae and was formerly known as Hellenia after the Finnish botanist Carl Niclas von Hellens. It’s widespread through tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Costus is distinguished from relatives such as zngiber (true ginger) by its spiraling stems. The genus as a whole is thus often called spiral gingers. Some species serve as food for caterpillars and the crepe ginger is used in the production of certain steroids.
Last but not the least, here’s a thought for the day-

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!
