Art : Vitamin A, B,C, E and K – Green apples

I’ve been trying to make time to paint and write and it’s not easy. It’s like being in love with two people at the same time. When I’m busy with one, I feel I’m not doing justice to the other. It’s like I’ve got my feet in two boats and that’s definitely not ideal because it means I can never really get better at any, yet I try.

I completed this painting on the second day of Navaratri, a festival spanning 9 nights, 10 days. This year the festival was celebrated from 7th October to 15th October by Hindus across India. It is celebrated in different ways across the different states in the country, the common feature being that the Goddess Durga is worshipped – the divine feminine energy is worshipped for courage, compassion, anger, strength, purity, intelligence and admiration of nature’s beauty. Each day is depicted by a particular colour and the Goddess is decked in a sari of that colour Day 2 was green, hence the green apples in this painting. The festival needs a post of its own which I will get down to writing some day, just not now. For now, I’ll share the painting inspired by a painting by Luybova Titova.

I feel the same way, it is so hard to find time and my inspiration queue of things to paint gets longer every day! I think your painting turned out beautifully.

I enjoy learning more about the Hindu holidays, Smitha. Diwali is the one I know the most about. I do like this still life. You’ve done a lovely job.

  Thank you dear Robbie for appreciating the painting. Navaratri is celebrated in so many different ways in India that I will need to write a separate post on it. I started writing the post and then there was simply too much to write about, so I stopped 🙂 But I will get to it, hopefully soon. Diwali is on the 4th of November, this year. Its a quiet Diwali for us this time with dad gone. But the city is celebrating and that’s a good thing.
